Utah has some of the hardest water in the country, drawn largely from mountain aquifers with a heavy mineral load, and front-loaders here carry that burden continuously — scale on the heating element, inlet valve screens that clog and slow the fill, and a chalky deposit in the door boot's folds that holds detergent residue against the rubber.
