Maryland's water runs moderately hard through much of the state, enough to leave a slow accumulation of scale on a front-loader's heating element and a film in the door boot, without the severity seen in the Midwest or Southwest. The humid mid-Atlantic summer is the more active problem, keeping that boot damp between loads and growing mold in the gasket folds.
