Arizona has some of the hardest water in the country, routinely testing above 250 ppm where supply comes off the Colorado River. For a front-load washer that means steady mineral deposit on the heating element and the water inlet valve, slower fills as the valve screens clog, and a chalky film that builds in the folds of the door boot and holds detergent residue against the rubber. The dry desert air is at least a partial reprieve — gasket mold is less aggressive here than in the Southeast. The bigger seasonal risk is a garage laundry room, where summer temperatures punish rubber hoses, seals and the boot itself.
